About us

Share Your Closet is a startup foundation with a passion for helping less privileged children and adults in poor communities in Lagos, Nigeria.

Our goal is simple: clothe people in need with clothing items you no longer want in your closet.

Living in the United States for many years, it was an eye-opener to observe the volume of gently used clothes and accessories that were frequently thrown away by people in their communities (on average, people get rid of about 70lbs. of clothing each year, with 85% of them ending up in the trash).

From a desire to give back to Nigeria, a mission emerged: collect gently used clothes and accessories sitting in closets and ship them to poor people in Nigeria.

In 2020, Share Your Closet Inc., was officially registered as a 501c3 non-profit organization based in the United States, with a core mission to help less privileged children and adults in poor communities in Lagos, Nigeria. As a starter, SYC has partnered with a local community church in Lagos to establish “boots on the ground” to help distribute the gently used clothing and shoes to communities in need. We hope to continue to expand our local partnerships on the ground to further expand our reach and impact.

What we do

Clothe People

Our mission is to clothe adults and children with gently used clothing, shoes, bags etc from the United States to underprivileged people in West Africa.

Support Families

As our guiding principle suggests, we aim to aid those in need by supplying good quality items that they may otherwise not be able to provide for their families.

Meet Needs

When extreme conditions like Covid-19 food shortages occur, we pivot to meet those immediate needs by raising funds to provide food for families who are in dire straits.
